Prince Albert II of Monaco Attends Key Mediterranean Science Commission in Palermo

On Sunday, October 13, Prince Albert II of Monaco marked his presence at the historic Palazzo Chiaramonte-Steri in Palermo, where he attended a key meeting of the International Commission for Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM). Accompanied by Monaco’s Ambassador to Italy, Anne Eastwood, and notable figures including CIESM Director Laura Giugliano and Monaco's National Delegate Tidiani Couma, the meeting saw discussions under the leadership of Prince Albert, focusing on the scientific body’s latest research and collaborative ventures aimed at the preservation of the Mediterranean's marine environment.

During the session, hosted by Professor Massimo Midiri, Rector of the University of Palermo, the delegation delved into the possibilities of enhancing cooperation to protect the marine life and ecological balance of the Mediterranean Sea. Prince Albert, a proactive advocate for environmental protection, underscored the importance of international collaboration in these efforts, emphasizing the need to strengthen initiatives that safeguard this vital marine habitat.

Following the official discussions, Prince Albert and his delegation toured the Palazzo Steri, a monumental site rich with Sicilian history and an exemplar of Catalan Gothic architecture. This visit not only highlighted the cultural and historical bonds between Monaco and Italy but also reaffirmed their shared dedication to environmental and cultural conservation. The tour of Palazzo Steri provided a fitting conclusion to a visit centered on reinforcing bi-national commitments to maritime and environmental challenges in the Mediterranean region.
