Addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prince Albert II of Monaco emphasized the indispensable role of peace in tackling the myriad challenges confronting the world today. In his speech to delegates from 193 member states, Prince Albert declared, “Peace is our most precious asset. Without it, it is impossible to ensure access to the most fundamental human rights.” His remarks underscored the interconnectedness of peace with stability and human rights, critical themes during his three-day engagement in New York.
During his visit, Prince Albert participated in significant discussions, including one at Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the UN with the Foundation for Post Conflict Development. Here, he awarded Léa Chaki with the Prince Albert of Monaco Leadership in Post Conflict Development Award, recognizing her efforts in global peace initiatives. Furthering his commitment to global harmony, Prince Albert also inked a partnership agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), witnessed by IOC President Thomas Bach, to promote peace through sports.
In a summit titled “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future,” Prince Albert highlighted the exacerbating impact of environmental issues on international tensions. He linked climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution to rising global instability and conflict, advocating for urgent multilateral cooperation to restore global peace and security. He also reinforced Monaco’s dedication to using sport as a unifying force that bridges diverse cultures and peoples, advocating for its role in fostering social development and peace on an international scale.
