HSH Prince Albert of Monaco was distinguished with the Magna Grecia Prize in Rome, Italy, on Thursday, recognizing his contributions towards promoting southern Italy via the Grimaldi Historic Sites network. During his two-day visit, the Prince engaged in activities underscoring Monaco's cultural connections with Italy and his dedication to environmental conservation, sports, and cultural patronage.
The visit commenced with an official reception by Monaco’s Ambassador to Italy, Anne Eastwood, followed by a visit to the Trinità dei Monti church overlooking the Spanish Steps, a site historically linked to the Grimaldi lineage. Additionally, the Prince toured the Villa Medici, where a partnership was forged with the French Academy in Rome to initiate the “Prince of Monaco – Villa Medici Scholarship,” aimed at supporting artists through commissioned works.
The culmination of Prince Albert’s visit was at the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, where he was awarded the Magna Grecia Prize within its famed galleries. In his acceptance speech, Prince Albert emphasized the longstanding connections between the Grimaldi family and the Magna Grecia region, celebrating the Italo-Monegasque relationship and expressing hopes for its future.
