New Font Unveiled to Preserve Unique Monegasque Language Accents

The National Committee of Monegasque Traditions has unveiled a pioneering digital font, developed in collaboration with the Scientific Centre of Monaco, Sogeda, and the Maison Numérique. This innovation marks a significant advancement in preserving the Monegasque language, specifically addressing the unique tonic accents introduced by Louis Notari in 1927. These accents, previously unrepresented in digital formats, are crucial for accurate written communication in Monegasque, which until now faced challenges due to the absence of proper digital representation.

Previously, the absence of these specific accents in standard fonts meant that educators and publishers had to resort to using alternative characters. This workaround restricted the sharing of Monegasque texts to PDF formats online, due to font recognition issues on various digital platforms. The introduction of this new font eradicates these barriers, facilitating the correct use of all Monegasque accents on digital media and enhancing the ease of publishing and sharing texts in the native language.

Available for free download for both PC and Mac users, this font can be accessed through the website of the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions. This development not only supports the preservation of Monaco's linguistic heritage but also promotes its use in modern digital communications, ensuring that the Monegasque language continues to thrive in the digital era.
