Monegasque swimmer Lisa Pou faced a challenging race during the 10km marathon swim in the Seine, finishing 18th with a time of 2h07’05”4. The event, graced by the presence of HSH Prince Albert among other dignitaries, was marked by an exceptionally strong current, complicating conditions for all competitors. The race was won by Dutch swimmer Sharon van Rouwendaal, who clocked in at 2h03’34”2.
Pou, who was not in peak physical condition, expressed her disappointment over her performance, attributing the strong river current as a significant hurdle. "The race was survival from start to finish. I’m very disappointed,” she remarked, reflecting on the day’s difficulties. Her sentiments underscored the demanding nature of the competition, which saw even seasoned athletes struggle.
Her coach, who is also her father, Michel Pou, highlighted the race's toughness, pointing out that even the reigning Olympic champion found the going tough. Despite the disappointing outcome, Pou is resolute in her desire to bounce back stronger. “These Paris Games are not an end in themselves. I hope to come back even stronger next year,” she stated, signaling her intent to overcome this setback and aim for better results in future competitions.
