Monaco to Begin Essential Safety Works on Rock Face Above Key City Areas

Monaco is set to undertake essential safety enhancements to the rock face above key urban areas, including the lower section of the Rampe Major and the vicinity of Avenue de la Porte Neuve, Place d’Armes, and Boulevard Charles III. The initiative, aimed at preventing rockfalls, will begin its first phase on October 3, near the base of the Rampe Major adjacent to the local police station. Officials assure that this phase will not disrupt pedestrian traffic.

To facilitate future phases, a temporary protective gallery will be constructed along the sidewalk beneath the rock face, stretching from the "Place d’Armes" bus stop at the foot of the Rampe Major to the Boulevard Charles III stop. Work on the gallery is scheduled for nighttime hours, from 19:00 to 01:00, starting Monday, October 7, and concluding Friday, November 8. Despite these constructions, pedestrian pathways will remain open, with traffic guides and barriers installed to ensure public safety and minimal noise disruption.

This protective measure is part of a broader effort to secure the rock face, with work expected to continue until December 20, 2024. The gallery will play a crucial role in safeguarding pedestrians and maintaining smooth traffic flow throughout the duration of this project.
