At the 17th edition of the Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of Small European States held in Malta, Monaco’s National Council President Thomas Brezzo led the principality's delegation in pivotal discussions on pressing global issues. The conference, initiated in Monaco in 2006, congregates leaders from nine small European countries including Andorra, Cyprus, and Luxembourg, to bolster solidarity and tackle mutual challenges. This year’s agenda highlighted climate change, multilateralism, and migration, with Brezzo advocating for a cohesive stance among small states in international arenas and the enhancement of parliamentary collaborations to elevate their global influence.
During the conference, President Brezzo, alongside Vice-President Jean-Louis Grinda and Fabrice Notari, head of the External Relations Committee, underscored the significance of small states preserving their distinct identities while pursuing common goals. The Monaco delegation emphasized the development of strategic communications to better articulate the collective viewpoints of smaller nations on the international stage.
Further cementing diplomatic bonds, Brezzo, together with Andorra’s President Carles Enseñat Reig, announced the imminent establishment of a Monaco-Andorra friendship group aimed at fostering closer bilateral relations. The delegation also engaged in key discussions with counterparts from Andorra and San Marino regarding ongoing negotiations with the European Union, sharing Monaco's experiences and strategies in assessing the impacts of potential agreements. These exchanges underscore Monaco’s proactive role in enhancing dialogue and cooperation among Europe’s smaller states.
