Monaco’s own Laurène Cucchi, an esteemed English teacher at Charles-III College, has recently showcased her athletic prowess at the Otillo Swimrun World Championship in Sweden. Competing alongside her teammate Olivia Feydel, Cucchi distinguished their team by finishing as the top French duo and securing the fifth position overall in the women's category. The formidable course stretched over 71 kilometers, blending running and open water swimming across 24 islands within the Stockholm archipelago. The duo impressively completed this challenge in just over 11 and a half hours.
The event marked Laurène’s debut at the world championship level in this demanding sport, where she faced adverse weather conditions, the worst since 2017. Despite persistent rain that rendered the terrain treacherously slippery and water temperatures chillingly between 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, Cucchi and Feydel persevered. Their resilience not only kept them in the race as others withdrew but also earned them pre-race recognition as a team to watch, a testament to their formidable reputation and skill.
Looking forward, the pair is gearing up for the upcoming Cannes Swimrun scheduled for October 12. Riding the wave of their success in Sweden, they aim to secure qualification for the 2025 World Championship. Laurène views swimrun not merely as a sport but as a passion that tests her limits and deepens her connection with nature. This sentiment will undoubtedly fuel her competitive spirit and dedication as she continues to represent Monaco on the global stage.
