Monaco's Elected Officials Urge Swift Digital Transformation for Enhanced Administrative Efficiency

In a bid to enhance Monaco's digital landscape, local officials have urged the government to expedite the transformation process, emphasizing the need for more efficient administrative services for both businesses and residents. This push for advancement was vocalized during a recent public session, where members of the National Council expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progression of digital reforms despite substantial investments exceeding €300 million over the past six years. The call for action highlights a significant gap between the current digital offerings—approximately 120 services out of a targeted 180—and the growing expectations since the launch of the ambitious "Extended Monaco" initiative in 2019.

Frédéric Genta, the Interministerial Delegate for the Digital Transition, acknowledged the foundational achievements thus far, including improvements in digital identity, fiber networks, and 5G deployment. However, he recognized the public's frustration with the pace of development, indicating that while the infrastructure is in place, the application of digital services has not met anticipated timelines. In response, the government has outlined plans to introduce a comprehensive online platform, facilitating a range of administrative interactions and a "one-stop-shop" service designed to streamline processes for residents, enhancing the efficiency of reporting life events across various government departments.

The vision for Monaco's digital future is ambitious, aiming to position the Principality as a leader in digital innovation comparable to the "Singapore of Europe." Plans include the development of a shared medical record platform to improve healthcare delivery and the utilization of "digital twin" technology for urban planning, enabling better simulation and analysis of development impacts. Additionally, the government is focusing on upskilling the workforce and has allocated €20 million through the blue fund to support local businesses in adopting digital technologies. As Monaco continues to navigate its digital journey, the emphasis remains on achieving significant progress by 2025 to ensure the Principality remains competitive and attractive in the evolving digital landscape.
