Monaco's Charles-III College Faces Delays as New Pool Remains Closed Due to Leaks

The newly opened Charles-III College in Monaco faces operational challenges as its swimming pool remains closed due to significant leaks. Despite the urgency of the matter, the responsible parties—the project management and the construction firm—are currently in a standoff, failing to provide a viable solution. Minister of Equipment, Environment, and Urban Planning, Céline Caron-Dagioni, emphasized the government's demand for accountability during a recent budget debate. She expressed frustration over the blame game between the involved entities, as reported by Monaco-Matin.

In response to the ongoing issue, Minister of State Didier Guillaume has set a firm deadline, insisting that the problem be resolved by the start of the next academic year in September. Meanwhile, students are redirected to alternative swimming facilities, including those at the Louis-II Stadium and the Annonciade site, which is slated for upcoming improvements as confirmed by Interior Minister Lionel Beffre. These interim arrangements ensure that the student’s training remains uninterrupted.

National Council President Thomas Brezzo has voiced his discontent with the situation, urging the government to prioritize the repair works in the 2025 amended budget to expedite the process. The government remains steadfast in its position not to use public funds for repairs until the responsible parties rectify the current defects. This decision aligns with the principled stance taken during previous infrastructure challenges, like the Jardins d’Apolline scandal. The resolution of the swimming pool issue at Charles-III College remains a critical concern, with the government and council pushing for swift and effective solutions to uphold the standards expected of public facilities in Monaco.
