On Tuesday, October 15, the National Council of Monaco approved the second 2024 budget amendment following extensive discussions that touched on pivotal developments within the Principality. The discussions highlighted significant projects including the new Fontvieille shopping center, the "Symbiose" waste treatment initiative, and ongoing challenges related to housing and mobility in Monaco.
Didier Guillaume, the newly appointed Minister of State, expressed a positive outlook on the government's progress in addressing these key issues. Thomas Brezzo, President of the National Council, commended the effective communication between the government and the council, emphasizing the necessity for the government to fulfill its commitments to sustain public trust.
Despite the approval of the budget, with a vote tally of 12 in favor, 6 against, and 3 abstentions, some controversies persisted, particularly concerning transparency. The debate became particularly animated over the “Brasca” project, a proposed €1.2 billion underground express link between Èze and Monaco, which was publicized without prior consultation with the National Council. This incident has underscored the need for ongoing dialogue and action to fortify trust ahead of the upcoming budget discussions in December.
