Monaco Marks 20 Years in Council of Europe with Prince Albert and Dignitaries

Monaco marked two decades of membership in the Council of Europe with a ceremonial event in Strasbourg, attended by key dignitaries including HSH Prince Albert, Secretary General Alain Berset, and various representatives from Monaco’s government and cultural institutions. The occasion highlighted the principality’s active participation and contributions to the Council since its accession on October 5, 2004, underscoring its commitment to the Council's core values of human rights protection, rule of law, and democracy.

The anniversary was celebrated with the launch of a multimedia exhibition inaugurated by Prince Albert II, showcasing Monaco’s engagement with the Council over the years. This exhibition, a collaborative effort involving the National Council, the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, along with Monegasque cultural bodies, will be accessible at the Palais de l’Europe throughout October and online, providing a comprehensive overview of Monaco’s contributions to the Council’s mission.

The festivities culminated with the unveiling of "Ode to Liberty," a participatory artwork by Mr. One Teas, symbolizing a commitment to human rights. This piece, representing an open window on human rights, will be presented to the Council of Europe, further cementing Monaco’s dedication to upholding and promoting democratic values and legal standards across Europe.
