Monaco Introduces New Measures to Combat Domestic and Youth Violence

Monaco has launched a new tool titled “Scale of Violence” to enhance the identification and management of violence in relationships and among the youth. This initiative, spearheaded by the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services, categorizes violence into three levels: Serenity, Alert, and Danger. Each category is detailed with examples spanning psychological, economic, physical, and sexual abuse, aimed at helping victims and professionals recognize and address various forms of violence. The guide is available in both French and English and includes essential contacts for local support services.

Additionally, the principality has adapted the resource for younger audiences, incorporating age-appropriate language and scenarios that resonate with issues like cyberbullying and violence in various forms. This youth version features illustrations from the manga Blitz and aligns with Monaco’s broader 2023 campaign to eliminate violence against women. The adapted guide is part of an educational initiative set to be rolled out in Monaco’s schools by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports starting this November, focusing on anti-bullying month.

The brochures are now available at major institutions including the Department of Social Welfare, Princess Grace Hospital, and the Association for Assistance to Victims of Crime (AVIP), among others. For further details on the “Scale of Violence” and its implementation, resources can be accessed via the dedicated website at dfm.mc/evenement/l-echelle-des-violences, providing comprehensive support and information to the community on this critical social issue.
