In a recent judicial proceeding in Monaco, a 40-year-old man with a history of criminal offenses in Monaco, France, and Switzerland received a four-month suspended sentence, including an eight-day jail term, after being apprehended for impaired driving with his child in the vehicle along with a considerable amount of cocaine. The incident, which took place on September 29 at the Portier roundabout, unfolded following the man's erratic driving that led to a minor accident and subsequent police intervention. Upon their investigation, authorities discovered 7.65 grams of cocaine in his car and noted clear signs of intoxication and drug use.
During the court session, the defendant expressed deep emotional distress and pleaded for understanding, citing severe struggles with alcohol and cocaine dependency which he attributed to personal relationship failures. He admitted to daily alcohol consumption over the last two years and using cocaine for the past three years, claims he procured from Nice for personal use, denying any involvement in drug trafficking. Despite acknowledging his remorse and the support of his current partner, the prosecution emphasized the gravity of his actions, particularly the irresponsibility displayed in the presence of his child.
Deputy Prosecutor Christine Mutiloa highlighted the risks posed by the defendant's behavior, arguing that the quantity of cocaine suggested it was meant for more than just personal consumption. In response, the court imposed a three-year driving prohibition and a 400 euro fine on the defendant, in addition to the suspended sentence. The court's decision also mandated substance abuse treatment for the man, reflecting a balanced approach in addressing both punitive measures and rehabilitative needs to encourage his reformation.
