Monaco Celebrates World Maritime Day with Blue-Lit Prince’s Palace and Yacht Club

To commemorate World Maritime Day on September 26, Monaco's Prince’s Palace and the Yacht Club will be bathed in blue lights, joining a global observance initiated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This year, the event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) under the theme “Navigating into the future: safety first!” The theme underscores the vital importance of maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship.

In conjunction with this international event, Monaco will participate in a symposium addressing extreme maritime conditions. This gathering, organized in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization, aligns with the principality’s proactive role as an IMO member, highlighting its dedication to maritime issues.

Since 2021, the IMO has encouraged its Member States to light up iconic landmarks in blue to enhance public awareness of the critical role maritime transport plays worldwide. By illuminating the Prince's Palace and the Yacht Club, Monaco not only demonstrates its commitment to the global maritime community but also to the ongoing efforts in preserving marine environments.
