From September 2 to September 15, 2024, the Espace Léo Ferré in Monaco will feature a poignant photo exhibition celebrating Léo Ferré, the Monegasque singer-songwriter whose influence remains emblematic in French music. Organized by the Mairie de Monaco, the exhibit, titled “Dernière exposition photo de Léo Ferré à l’Espace Léo Ferré – Vu à travers l’objectif d’Hubert Grooteclaes,” showcases the artistic synergy between Ferré and acclaimed Belgian photographer Hubert Grooteclaes (1927-1994), highlighting their enduring friendship and collaboration.
The exhibition presents a series of compelling photographs by Grooteclaes, a master portraitist who valued his relationship with Ferré beyond the art of photography. Ferré reciprocated this admiration, famously describing Grooteclaes as “the man before the click, the flight before the bird.” This collection not only captures their shared creative journey but also offers an intimate glimpse into Ferré’s personal and professional realms.
This event marks the final showcase at the current Espace Léo Ferré venue before its relocation to the new Îlot Pasteur site. Open daily from 11:30 to 19:00, with free entry and an opening ceremony at 14:00 on Monday, September 2, this exhibition serves as a fitting homage to Ferré’s lasting legacy in Monaco’s cultural landscape.
