Monaco and the Southern Region have successfully renegotiated the plans for the imminent railway renovations on the Nice-Ventimiglia line, confirming the schedule from September 15, 2023, to June 26, 2025. The revision was solidified during a collaboration between Monaco’s Minister of Equipment, Environment, and Urban Planning, Céline Caron-Dagioni, and Jean-Pierre Serrus, Vice-President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region responsible for transport and sustainable mobility, along with officials from SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau, and regional and Monegasque services.
The partnership sought to refine the initial proposals from SNCF concerning work and substitution strategies, aiming to better accommodate the commuting demands of residents and align with the Principality's expectations. This adjustment follows previous discussions which had already postponed the commencement of the works and eliminated disruptions during the high-profile Champions League match between AS Monaco and FC Barcelona.
The revised agreement includes extending daily train operations until 22:00, an hour later than previously planned, and suspending rail work during evenings when matches start at 21:00. These changes, intended to minimize impact on local transport services, reflect a mutual commitment to both the modernization of the rail infrastructure and the provision of reliable transportation for Monaco’s residents and visitors. Both parties have expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing its alignment with the needs of the community and the goals of regional development.
