Monaco and Lucciana Mark 15 Years of Twinning Amid Other Celebrations

This year, Monaco and the Corsican town of Lucciana mark 15 years of twinning, celebrating a partnership that began on September 26, 2009, and is deeply rooted in their shared devotion to Sainte Dévote, the patron saint of both regions. This anniversary follows the 60th celebration of Monaco's twinning with Ostend and comes just before the first anniversary of its twinning with Dolceacqua, highlighting Monaco’s consistent efforts in fostering close international ties.

The bond between Monaco and Lucciana was strengthened in 2003 when Prince Rainier III and Prince Albert visited Lucciana to honor Sainte Dévote, leading to the formal twinning six years later. The 2009 twinning ceremony, featuring the mayors of both towns and marked by the dual playing of the Corsican and Monégasque anthems, symbolized a mutual respect and cultural exchange that continues to thrive today.

Over the years, this relationship has seen numerous cultural exchanges, including annual participation in religious and festive events in both regions. In 2022, the Prince Rainier III Archaeological Museum was inaugurated in Corsica, underscoring the enduring links. Recently, Mayor Georges Marsan, alongside HSH Prince Albert and HSH Princess Stéphanie, visited the museum, celebrating this historic twinning and the shared heritage of Monaco and Lucciana.
