Monaco's government has formally opened applications for the design, construction, financing, and operation of the 'Brasca' park-and-ride facility, a major transit project located at the juncture of Eze and La Turbie near the A500 tunnel. This initiative, first announced in October 2023, aims to enhance connectivity between Monaco and neighboring French territories. The envisaged facility will include a substantial parking area with a capacity for approximately 3,500 vehicles, and an express underground transit system linking directly to Monaco, significantly easing the current traffic congestion.
The planned transport system will initially accommodate 2,400 passengers per hour in each direction, with provisions for scaling up to 3,600 as demand increases. The infrastructure will feature a passenger station at the park-and-ride site and another within Monaco, strategically positioned between Charles-III block and Place d’Armes. The project encourages prospective bidders to consider potential future expansions, such as additional stations or line extensions, ensuring the system's adaptability to evolving transportation needs.
The project, estimated to cost around 1.2 billion euros, spans a detailed timeline that projects six to eight years from contract signing to operational commencement, contingent upon a bilateral agreement between France and Monaco. Proposals for the project are to be submitted to Monaco’s Department of Equipment, Environment, and Urban Planning by February 28, 2025. The chosen candidate will also manage the operation of the transport system for 10 to 15 years post-completion, marking a significant milestone in regional transport development.
