A gas leak detected at 41 Boulevard des Moulins on Wednesday led to a temporary closure of the road as emergency teams responded to the incident. The leak, originating from a malfunctioning gas meter, required the expertise of Monaco’s firefighters alongside technicians from the Société Monégasque de l’Électricité et du Gaz (SMEG). An alert was raised by a worker who noticed an unusual odor, prompting immediate investigation and intervention.
The source of the leak was traced to a connection box within the SMEG network, identified with advanced detection equipment. In response, a significant emergency operation was mounted, involving eighteen firefighters and five emergency vehicles. Despite the leak being assessed as minor, SMEG implemented a full precautionary shutdown of the gas supply and established a security perimeter to ensure public safety, which led to the boulevard being inaccessible to traffic between 13:45 and 15:00.
SMEG has confirmed that repairs on the affected connection box are progressing, aiming to restore normalcy swiftly. Public Safety officers maintained a secure perimeter throughout the operation to manage the scene safely. The incident underscores the effective response protocols in place for utility issues within the principality, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum safety for its residents.
