Boris Herrmann Battles for Top 5 Finish in Vendée Globe Under Monaco Flag

As the Vendée Globe approaches its conclusion, Monegasque-flagged German skipper Boris Herrmann is vying for a top 5 finish in this grueling solo, non-stop, unassisted round-the-world yacht race. Currently, Herrmann holds the 6th position, a notable improvement from 9th place at the year's start. With only 10 days remaining until the race concludes in Les Sables-d’Olonne, Herrmann is locked in a close contest with British skipper Sam Goodchild for the 5th spot.

Boris Herrmann, born in 1981, has become a prominent figure in international sailing and a distinguished representative of Monaco. In his inaugural Vendée Globe race in 2021, Herrmann secured a commendable 5th place, which was later adjusted to 4th due to a time bonus awarded for his role in the rescue of fellow sailor Kevin Escoffier. His efforts showcased not only his skill and determination but also his commitment to safety and sportsmanship at sea.

Beyond his racing achievements, Herrmann is a passionate advocate for ocean conservation. His vessel, the Malizia – Seaexplorer, is equipped with scientific instruments that gather crucial environmental data, including water quality and CO₂ emissions. This initiative aligns with the Principality of Monaco’s commitment, led by Prince Albert II, to supporting sports endeavors that further environmental protection goals, reinforcing the city-state’s dedication to global ecological efforts.
